Scott Barboza
CO-FOUNDER | CHIEF STRATEGY OFFICER
Scott Barboza leads at the intersection of sports, media, and intellectual property.
Before pursuing his law degree, Barboza built more than two decades of experience in high-visibility corporate communications and media roles. He spent three seasons in the New England Patriots’ media relations department, working closely with players, coaches, and senior leadership and gaining firsthand exposure to the day-to-day business of a team operating in a CBA-governed environment. That role sharpened his instincts around athlete-facing communications, stakeholder management, and the reputational realities that can shape careers and organizations in real time.
He later joined ESPN.com in Boston as an editor and staff writer, where he covered Boston sports extensively, including the Red Sox and Bruins, while also helping build a high-performing high school sports vertical in a crowded media market. Across these roles, he developed a deep understanding of how athletes’ brands are formed, protected, and amplified, and how media rights, partnerships, and public narratives intersect with business outcomes.
He later transitioned into executive communications roles in healthcare, including Director of Marketing and Communications at Franciscan Children’s and leadership positions at Boston Children’s Hospital, Southcoast Health, and Prime Healthcare, where he managed complex, high-stakes messaging in a highly regulated environment.
During law school, Barboza served as a intern in the Business and Legal Affairs division at FOX Sports in Los Angeles, supporting transactional matters involving media rights, sublicensing, and vendor agreements. His legal training also included hands-on client representation through the University of New Hampshire’s IP and Transaction Clinic, where he completed USPTO trademark filings and copyright registrations.
As a co-founder of OBP Partners, Barboza combines legal training with a journalist’s instinct for storytelling, sports business acumen, and a strategist’s understanding of media ecosystems. His background positions him to help athletes build authentic, marketable brands and secure long-term value in an industry where image, communication, and opportunity intersect.
A Massachusetts native, Barboza now resides in Los Angeles with his family, and enjoys playing hockey in his spare time. He remains active in philanthropy and youth sports development, having served on advisory boards for the Bay State Games and the Oak Square YMCA in Boston.
